PUTARURU CHAMBER
At the monthly meeting of the Putaruru Chamber of Commerce, held last night, the question of a through daily mail service from Putaruru to Taupo, via Lichfield, Tokoroa and Atiamuri was again discussed. Mr. F. F. Hockly. M.P., wrote stating that the chamber s representations on the matter had been submitted by him to the chief postmaster, and it had been decided to request the lowest tenderer for the thrice-weekly service to submit a price for a daily service. Members thought that if one firm was asked for a price, all probable tenderers should be asked, and it was decided to make further representations on the matter. At present there is no direct mail to Taupo by the route mentioned. The question of clearing the bed of the new Arapuni Lake of tea-tree, which was detrimental to fish, was discussed, and the opinion was expressed that the matter was being delayed too long. The chamber decided to pay an early visit to the area, which, it was stated, would become the finest fishing ground 2:1 New Zealand. The chamber decided to urge upon t le Railway Department the urgent necessity for advertising the fast t Mir.s which would be run during the summer months to and from Auckland. A unanimous resolution in favour of t.i» Liajlight Saving tail was passed. 1
