Auckland Motorists Tipped Over Bank

ACCIDENT NEAR TE KUITI CAR BURSTS INTO FLAMES Press Association. TE KUITI, To-day. Three motorists had a miraculous escape on Sunday night near Kihikihi when driving from Auckland to Te Kuiti. The three men, H. B. Ferral, of ■Remuera, George Bond, Onehunga, and Edward Guinan, Auckland, were following a service car which stopped to allow a car coming the opposite way to cross a bridge. In order to avoid a collision, the driver of the Auckland car swerved off the road and the car dropped over a bank 16ft deep, overturning several times. Messrs. Bond and Guinan were thrown clear in the blackberry and gorse. Mr. Ferral was pinned underneath the car, and was extricated in an unconscious condition, his clothes being saturated with benzine. A few minutes afterward the wrecked car burst into flames, and was completely destroyed. Mr. Ferral received severe bruises on an arm, Mr. Guinan had a collar-bone broken and Mr. Bond was severely shaken and received minor cuts. The three men were brought on to iTo Kuiti, where their injuries were attended to.
