A PERPLEXING TRAGEDY

FRENCH LAD’S SUICIDE STRANGE ATTITUDE OF WOMAN By Cable.—Press Association. —Copyrigh > PARIS, Monday. A perplexing tragedy is reported from Dreux, where a farm lad of 13 was found hanged. His employer and sole companion was an old woman, Louise Aubert. She had previously complained that the boy stole her money and a rifle. The boy denied this, but later admitted that he stole from a neighbouring farm in obedience to the orders of Aubert, who thereupon, in a violent rage, ordered the boy to leave. The finding of the dead body next evening did not ruffle Aubert, who complained that she had lost a bag containing 25,000 francs. The police found this untouched beneath the boy’s feet. A doctor was of the opinion that death occurred on the previous day. The police are unable to get anything out of Aubert, except complaints against the lad. —A. and N.Z.
