AVONDALE FIRE BRIGADE

FINAL “SMOKO” PRESENTATION OF MEMENTO On Saturday evening a very pleasant social evening was held by the Avondal© Volunteer Fire Brigade. The function was held to mark .the disbandment of the brigade, made necessary by the conditions following upon amalgamation with the city. Superintendent Watson occupied the chair, and Mr. H. Tiarks, ex-Mayor, and Cr. W. V'endlebury represented the council. The superintendent explained that although the function was in the nature of a final gathering, the brigade would • any on until the city had made satisfactory arrangements to take over the work. During the evening several presentations were made. Fireman Heron received a beautiful silver teapot from the officers and men of the brigade. Superintendent Watson was given a large framed shield with a photograph of each fireman beautifully mounted. -\s the chairman of the brigade committee for the third year, Cr. Pendlebury received a pair of engraved military hairbrushes and a framed photograph of the brigade. Mr. Tiarks, as « x-Mayor, aiso received a framed photograph of the brigade, and Mr. “King” Fearon was made a similar gift. All the recipients suitably responded and a fine musical programme and lengthy toast list completed a most enjoyable evening. The brigade has always been a particular pride of Avondale Borough, and its disbandment is one of the regrettable features necessary on amalgamation.
