LIMERICK WINS FIRST TEST

AMOUNIS AND COMMENDATION NARROWLY HEADED THREE DOMINION WINS AT WARWICK FARM By Cable. —Press Association. —Copyright SYDNEY, September 4. The Warwick Farm Meeting took place yesterday in fine weather, and there was a large attendance. The race track was in excellent condition. Interest in the racing was enhanced by the appearance of many candidates for events at the forthcoming spring meeting of the Australian Jockey Club.

The New Zealanders had a most successful day, winning three events. In the September Hurdles, Asleep proved too speedy for his rivals, and won easily in record time.

Merry Mint, in the Hobartville Stakes, had no difficulty in winning, and showed he had no fear of the rest of the field, coming home without effort. THRILLING STAKES FINISH In the Warwick Stakes Limerick registered a third win of the day for New Zealand, with two other Dominion representatives filling places. Valicare made the early running, and led for half the distance. In a thrilling finish Limerick shot past Amounis and Com- . mendation, who were fighting hard for victory, and won in time equal to Windbag’s record for a mile made in same race last year. The Sunday “Sun” says a new Derby hope has arisen from New Zealand in Merry Mint. It adds: The Hawk may have lost a lot of his old brilliance, but in Merry Mint Mr. Cameron has a worthy successor. Referring to Limerick, the paper says the latter placed the seal on his fame as a champion all-rounder by his all-conquering run in which he vanquished Amounis and Commendation.
