PUBLIC SERVICE ENTRANCE

COUNTRY HANDICAP Mr. T. W. Rhodes, Thames, has given notice to ask the Prime Minister whether the Government will revoke the recently introduced Public Service Entrance regtilation No. 146, so as to afford equal opportunity, acocrding to merit alone, to all candidates. The regulation reads: “If a vacancy occurs at a place other than Wellington, it may, in the first instance, be offered to a candidate residing at or near such place.” This means that country scholars are severely handicapped.
