SCHOOLBOYS’ SOCCER TOURNAMENT
A WIN FOR WELLINGTON
The schoolboys’ Association football tournament for the Webster Shield was concluded at Victoria Park yesterday and was won by Wellington. The match between Wellington and Manawatu was evenly contested during the first spell. After some good play among the Wellington forwards, Ongley scored a fine goal. Wellington held the advantage throughout the second half, but could not increase its score, and the match ended: Wellington 1. Manawatu 0. This victory gained for Wellington the shield. The following table shows the final position of the teams: P. W. L. D. Pts. Wellington .. 3 2 0 1 5 Waikato .... 3 2 1 0 4 Auckland .. 3 1 1 1 3 Manawatu .. 3 0 3 0 0 It was reported yesterday that Millehanny, of Wellington, had sustained a fracture of a rib during the game against Auckland on Thursday. The boy was taken to the Auckland Hospital and after examination it was found that he was suffering from bruises only. He was able to take his place in the Wellington team yesterday.
