OBSERVATION FLIGHTS

THE AIRSHIP MISSION HAMILTON AND HELENSVILLE Flying in the Bristol fighter GroupCaptain P. F. M. Fellowes, of the Imperial airship mission, and Captain J. L. Findlay went to Hamilton and back in about 100 minutes yesterday. The journey was “bumpy,” but visibility was fairly good and Group-Cap-tain Fellowes was able to make an estimate of the country. No landing was made. Group-Captain Fellowes said that Hamilton was spread over such a large area that by European standards an aviator would estimate its population at 40,000. To-day Captain Fellowes will survey country by motor-car, and if conditions are good he will make a flight toward Helensville. He will probably fly to Wellington with Captain Findlay to-morrow. The other members of the mission will leave fo.r Wellington by train this evening.
