THE GRAND
“LOVERS?” In “Lovers?” his latest starring vehicle for Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer, to be shown at the Grand Theatre tonight, Ramon Novarro will be seen as a Spaniard in a gripping drama laid in modern Madrid. The new picture is a graphic modern play in which the menace of slander on modern society is the basis of a gripping plot. The ruin of the modern home and the decay of happiness under the poison of scandal and gossiping tongues is shown in a startling manner.
John M. Stahl, the director of “The Gay Deceiver” and many other successes, directed “Lovers” with Novarro and Alice Terry playing the leading roles. The cast is an exceptionally talented one, and includes Edward Martindel, Edward Connelly, George K. Arthur, John Miljan, Lillian Leighton and other players of note. A sensational duel, gay cafe life in Madrid and other exotic scenes are depicted in the picturesque story of Spain as it is to-day, as sophisticated as Paris or any other large European city.
“Lovers?” is a screen adaptation of “The World and His Wife,” the famous stage play of Charles F. Nircllinger, and one of the sensations of the European stage.
