Now What Do You Know About That!

The following remarkable commentary on Rugby football in New South Wales is from the pen of “Cynic,” the well known League Rugby critic of the Sydney “Referee”:

“Time was when the Rugby League could claim far the stronger representative combination. in . Rugby in New South Wales. To-day it is not so. The Rugby Union actually possesses greater resources, and if its organisation becomes more thorough, and the piasters (especially the forwards), give keener attention to condition, the older code may re-establish its position, despite the fact that the old game, as a game, is not so attractive in public opinion as the League code.” In a previous issue, the “Referee’ expressed the following opinion: “We consider that in the Rugby League there is no fullback to-day as good as A. W. Ross, no five-eighth equal to T. Lawton, no centre three-quarter equal to A. C. Wallace, and that the best combination of Rugby Union backs would be better than the best Rugby League backs <in N.S.W.).'’
