DAFFODIL DAY

MANUREWA FUNCTION Tho fifth annual Daffodil Day was celebrated by the three churches at Manurewa yesterday. The function, which was held in the Manurewa ! Theatre, was declared open by Dr. Hilda Northcroft, representing the National Council of Women. The Rev. W. J. Elliott, Methodist minister, also made a pleasant speech, congratulating the ladies of the various churches i on their untiring efforts. ; Mrs. Whyte presided and introduced ! the speakers. The many stalls erected in the hall did brisk business during the function, those in charge being:—Flower stall, Mrs. Youngson. Mrs. Clarke, Miss Youngson; cake stall, Mrs. Coxhead, Mrs. De Cartaret, Mrs. Patterlo, Miss Smith; sweet stall, Mrs. Forbes, Mrs. Wrigley, Miss Finlayson, Miss Fawcett, Miss Nelson; produce stall, Mrs. Robertson, Mrs. Wood. Mrs. Griffin, Mrs. Whitten, Mrs. Jeoland; refreshment rooms, Mesdames Whyte, Gallagher, Wood, Robertson, Lupton, McDonald, Bartlett, Cox, Grey, Weir. Phillips and Sid away. The centre of attraction for the afternoon was the “Baby Carnival.” great j interest being manifest in this item, the voting being very close, and resulted as follows: —Methodist baby, first, with 808; Presbyterian, second, with 800: and the Anglican, third, with 772. Each baby received a prize. The prize for the best decorated bicycle was won by Roy Gibbs; decorated basket. Gwen Weir, first; and | Noline Brown, special prize.
