STOCK VALUES AT ADDINGTON

STEERS MAKE TO £l9 12/6 Press Association. CHRISTCHURCH, Wednesday. Forward wethers, hoggets and good ewes in lamb met with a fair demand at Addington to-day. The market for fat cattle was irregular, but values on the average were little changed from last week. The fat sheep yarding was smaller, but included some very prime lines. Store pigs advanced in value, but the market for fats remained unchanged. Store Sheep.—There was a moderate yarding. The range of prices was: Four and five-year-old halfbred ewes, 2Ss 6d to 32s 9d; failing-moutli halfbred ewes, 22s 7d; aged crossbred ewes, 17s 3d to 20s; halfbred ewe hoggets, 29s Id; crossbred wether hoggets, 20s to 225; inferior crossbred wether hoggets, 17s 4d to ISs 6d; crossbred ewe hoggets, 25s 3d to 2Ss 6d; inferior crossbred ewe hoggets, 20s 6d to 23s Id; 6 and 8-tooth halfbred wethers, 29s 5d to 33s 7d. Fat Lambs.—There were 10 new season’s fat lambs penned and they sold readily at 32s to 355. Fat Sheep. Extra prime heavy wethers, 50s to 5Ss 4d; prime heavy wethers, 44s to 495; medium wethers, 35s to 42s 6d; light wethers, 33s Id to 345; extra prime ewes, 3Ss 6d to 44s lOd; prime ewes, 34s 6d to 37s 6d; medium ewes, 29s to 32s 6d; light ewes, 24s 6d to 28s 6d: prime hoggets, 30s to 40s; medium hoggets, 26s to 29s 6d. Fat Cattle.—The top price was made by a line of Herefords and Polled steers from Mr. W. E. Bidwill, Featherston, which made £l4 17s 6d to £l9 12s 6d, averaging £l6 13s 8d; extra prime steer and heifer beef sold up to 44s a 1001 b; ■good medium-weight steers, 3Ss 6d to 41s a 1001 b; heavy steers, 34s to 36s 6d; unfinished, 28s to 31s; and rough beef down to 25s a 1001 b. The range of prices was: Extra prime heavy steers, to £l9 12s 6d; prime heavy steers, £l6 15s to £18; medium-weight prime steers, £l4 10s to £l6 15s; light prime steers, £ll to £l4; inferior steers, £7 10s to £io 10s; extra prime heifers, to £l4 2s 6d; prime heifers, £ll 10s to £l3; medium heifers, £7 15s to £ll ss; light heifers, £5 15s to £7 10s; extra prime cows, to £l3 2s 6d; prime cows, £ll to £l3; ordinary cows, £7 10s to £lO 15s; light cows, £5 to £7 ss. Vealers.—A small yarding of vealers was mostly made up of small calves with a few yearlings. There was a short supply of good butchers’ calves and they sold at an advance on the high prices lately ruling. Twelve to 18-months-old sorts sold up to £8 ss; good vealers, £5 15s to £7; medium vealers, £3 15s to £5 ss; others, 15s to £2 ss.

Store Cattle.—Three and four-year-old steers, £4 Is to £9 17s 6d; good store cows, £3 5s to £4 10s; medium cows. £2 to £3; aged inferior cows, 20s to 355.

Dairy Cattle.—There was a small entry of dairy cattle and not of good quality. Second, third and fourth calvers, £7 10s to £lO 10s; medium cows, £5 15s to £7! inferior cows, £3 10s to £5 10s; best heifers, £6 to £S; others, £3 15s to £5 10s; old cows in profit, 25s to £2 10s. Fat Pigs.—There was a small entry of fat pigs. Choppers made £3 10s to £5 7s 6d; light baconers, £3 5s to £3 13s; heavy baconers, £4 to £4 10s; averaging to a lb; light porkers, 43s to 50s; heavy porkers, 55s to 61s; averaging 7d to Sd a lb.

Store Pigs.—A small entry of store pigs showed a considerable improvement on late rates, there Toeing a good attendance of buyers, who bid freely. Good weaners made 18s to 25s 6d; inferior weaners, 12s to 16s; medium stores, 26s to 31s; large stores, to 34s Gd; young sows, in pig, £3 5s to £5 10s.
