By Cable. —Press Ass Reed. 9.2 S a.m. LONDON, Wed. rT’HE cricket match between New -*- Zealand and Kent began at Canterbury in glorious weather. Kent fielded a strong team, including A. P. F. Chapman, who captained England in the last Test in which the Australians were defeated, A. .1. Evans, a former Oxford University captain, and Knott. When the innings opened Hardinge and Ashdown scored 34 quickly off McGirr and Bernau. The first wicket fell after half au hour, when Hardinge was stumped. Woolley was brilliant. He reached the half-century in 45 minutes. By lunch time 129 had been scored with the loss of one wicket. Sixteen runs later Woolley was easily caught at cover after a very bright innings. Ashdown was sent back when the score was 179. He hit 11 fours, and his innings lasted 130 minutes. Chapman and Ames added 64 in 45 minutes, and then Ames and Legge became associated in another fine partnership of 77. Hubble and Knott added 84 in 45 minutes, and a great batting effort ended at last after four and a-half hours. The New Zealanders made a start
