AVONDALE BOROUGH

WINDING UP BUSINESS In view of the decision to amalgamate with the city, the Avondale Borough Council last night decided on the motion of Cr. Wright not to take advantage of the opportunity to raise the North Ward supplementary loan of £I,BOO.

The urgent necessity for repairs to Kitchener Road was stressed in a letter from Mr. J. D. McKenzie. It was decided to effect repair work.

A similar request in regard to the footpath in New Windsor Road, from Mr. J. S. Nash, was received.

Mr. W. J, Tait wrote stating that owing to recent heavy rains the main sewer going through his section, No. 16 Glendon Avenue, had become uncovered. He offered to spread material on same if supplied by the council. The offer was accepted.

On the proposal of Cr. Wright it was decided that the members attending the City Council bring before that authority the desirability of giving immediate attention to the question of assisting ratepayers in the No. 2 special drainage area. The sum of £1,300 was available.

The engineer, Mr. Goldsboro, reported that the kerbing and channelling in Station Road was complete with the exception of returns into intersecting streets, which were now being constructed. The formation of footpath on the eastern side is well under way. The cost of kerb and channel was £6 17s 6d a chain. The cost for returns into intersecting streets would be somewhat higher.

Members eulogised the engineer for the satisfactory nature of the work, and the low cost at which it was accomplished.

Mr. Goldsboro also reported that the work of metalling Gilfillan, M.itchell and O’Neill Streets was approximately one-half completed.

Twelve building permits were isstved during the past fortnight, the tofital estimated cost being £4,295.

At this stage the meeting was adjourned until Wednesday next, unless in the opinion of the town clerk it is essential to call members together in the interim.
