EARLY MORNING FIRE
DAMAGE AT DUNEDIN (Special to THE SUN.) DUNEDIN, Tuesday. Severe damage was caused when a two-storeyed wooden building in George Street caught fire shortly before 5 o’clock this morning. The building was occupied by G. Gourley, butcher, Harrod’s home cookery, Stairways’ open warehouse and Miss Spillane, dressmaker. The fire originated at the back of an oven used by Harrod’s, at the rear of the building, and quickly spread upstairs. The back portion and the roof of the building were badly damaged. Stocks in the downstairs shops suffered from heat, smoke and water. The insurance on the building was £3,000 in the Standard Office. Mr. Gourley’s stock was insured for £950 in the Sun Office, and £SOO in the Standard Office. Harrod’s stock was insured for £SOO with the Standard Office, and Stairways’ stock was insured for £7OO, and the fittings for £3O. in the Atlas Office.
