ALPINE SPORTS

MEETING AT RUAPEHU A party consisting of about 20 members left Ohakune early on Sunday morning for a trip to Ruapehu. In glorious spring weather the partyreached the Whakape hut, where skiing and other forms of winter sports were indulged i.n SeVeral members of the party, including Messrs. Plank, J. Plank, jun., Clifford, Scarfe, G. France and Colin Thomas, set out from the huts to scale the heights, and reached the summit after a hard climb. The visibility was exceedingly good and the view was well worth the effort. It is reported that the snow was particularly deep in places, but generally speaking the conditions were good forclimbing. There are about 60 people staying at the hut at the present time, and the annual winter sports commenced on Monday.

Owing to the heavy frosts experienced lately, the snow is in particularly good condition for ski-ing.
