WHANGAREI PARTIES

On Wednesday, in the YLM.C.A. rooms, a most enjoyable bridge evening was given by Mrs. E. W. Thomson and Mrs. L. G. R. Hunt. There were 17 tables in play, and the prize-winners were Mesdames J. A. S. Mac Kay, J. Reid. Boult and Dr. Campbell. The decorations on the supper table were daffodils, with vivid Iceland poppies on the mantelpiece. On Monday evening the Literary Circle of the Women’s Club held an open night in the club room. There ‘was a large attendance of members and friends who greatly enjoyed the leading of the play. “Miss Gorringe’s Necklace.” Those taking part were: Mesdames A. Jack, Harmon-Smith, Misses Broughton-Carr, Given, Hosking, Messrs. Benjamin, Dent, Grove. Smith and Laurenson. On Monday evening the Misses Marjorie King and May Bradley gave a most enjoyable party to a number of friends at the Friendly Societies’ Hall. Dancing, music and games occupied the evening, and a note of gaiety was struck by the distribution among the guests of carnival caps and multicoloured streamers.

As a farewell to Mr. and Mrs. A. R. Merr'ngton, who are leaving Hikurangi on Tuesday to take up their residence in Te Aroha, Mrs. J. W. Hansell, of Valley Road, entertained a number of friends to a card party. A most enjoyable evening was spent, prizes being won by Mrs. Merrington. Airs. W. E. J. Smith, Airs. Ryan, Air. W. Smith.
