SERVICE EXTENDED
NIGHT CALLS TO SOUTH The success of the inter-island telephone has prompted the department to extend the service at night to many of the smaller exchanges in the South Island. Calls can now be put through as far South as Palmerston and Oama.ru. The hours for the outside exchanges »re front 10 p.m. to 7 a.m„ and the list of exchanges which can be reached between those hours is as tollows: Akaroa, Ashburton, Blenheim, Cheviot, Christchurch, Darfleld, Dunedin, Tairlie, Geraldine, Hawardcn, Ivaianoi, Kaikoura, Leeston, Mayfield, Methven, Motueka, Nelson, Oama.ru, Palmerston, Picton, Pleasant Point, Rakaia, Rangiora, Richmond, feeddon, Takaka, Temuka, Timaru, Waimate. The inter-island telephone service is growing in popularity and is proving moat useful for business people who wish to get urgent messages through to the South, and vice versa. Christchurch can be reached at all hours.
