AUCKLAND AMATEUR BILLIARDS CHAMPIONSHIP
FREDATOVICH IN FORM The Auckland provincial amateur billiard championship for the Billiards Limited Shield was commenced last evening at the showrooms of Billiards, Limited. The opening game between R. Fredatovich and J. S. Colegrove attracted a large gathering, including a number of ladies. Fredatovich, who has the New Zealand and Auckland titles to his credit, commenced scoring very consistently, and on his third, fifth and eighth visits to the table made breaks of 23. 23 and 28. He was first to reach the century. Colegrove, up to this stage, was not favoured by the running of the balls, but strove hard to reduce his opponent’s lead. Fredafreely, and in rapid succession made breaks of 22, 21 and 24. At this stage the score read:—Fredatovich, 245; Colegrove, 102. The former, at his 48th visit to the tabic,, striking well, made a splendid break of 84 by means of losing hazards off the red. He lost the white when he had scored nine and carried on with winning and losing hazards until he had scored the 25tli shot. Having no opponent’s ball on the table he was forced to play safety, as, according to the new rules, no player can score more than 25 winning or losing hazards. Colegrove’s only break of note was one of 21 and Fredatovich soon ran to points. The final scores were:—Fredatavieli, 500; Colegrove. 197. Fredatovich’s best breaks were: 84. 28. 26, 24, 23, 23, 22. 21; average, 8.5.
