FREE-FOR-ALL EVENTS

SLOWLY DISAPPEARING NOT FINANCIAL PROPOSITION A few seasons ago no fewer than six free-for-all events were staged during the season, and a big attraction they proved to be. This was easy to anticipate, for patrons have always expressed a desire to see the best horses in action. But somehow these events have failed badly from a financial viewpoint. Consequently they have gradually disappeared, from tile majority of programmes. The latest to threaten to erase the f ree -for-all from its list is the Northland Trotting Club. If it does the New Zealand Metropolitan Trotting Club will be the only organisation to provide a free-for-all contest for the champions.
