SUBURBAN BODIES AND TRANSPORT
Sir, — There seems to be an insane desire on the part of some of our local bodies to be mixed up in the City Council’s transport mess, and to this end I note that Mr. Potter, the Mayor of Mount Eden, has called a meeting of representatives to discuss the question. Whatever is or is not done, I sincerely hope that the ratepayers will have the last say on the question at the ballot ox. The local bodies had no say whatever as to whether it was a wise proposition or not to take the trams over form the private company, and now that the city finds that it has bitten off more than it can conveniently swallow, it is only too glad for the other fellow to come in and help grapple with it. The Tramway Board, as was clearly disclosed at the recent vote on the tram loan, has not the confidence even of the city ratepayers, and I consider, therefore, that the suburbanites should keep as far from fire as possible If not they will find it burns—when it is too late. INTERESTED.
