HIGH SCHOOL BALL AT TAURANGA
The Tauranga District High School annual ball is always Keenly anticipated by both scholars and their parents, and the one held in the Town Hal! on Friday was a decided success. It was in the nature of a plain and fancy dress affair, and long before 8 o clock the hall was crowded, presenting a very gay sight.. The teachers and committee had combined in making all arrangements, and seldom has the hall been better decorated. Before officially opening the function Mr. G. K. Hamilton, headmaster, in a short speech, thanked all helpers, and stated that the proceeds were to be used toward purchasing a piano for the infant school. The grand march, which was participated in by over 300 children, was very effective, and received rounds of apolause. The music, by an orchestra under Mr. Kirk Burnand, was all that could be desired. At 9.30 the children had supper, and at 10.30 wended their way home, all having had a delightful time. The adults kept up the dancing until early morning. The gross proceeds are about £7O, and after the few accounts are paid there should be a good ci'edit balance.
