PONSONBY V ROTOWARO (Special to THE SUN.) HUNTLY, Saturday. There was a bright display in the first half, Rotowaro having the better of the early stages, and Watts being kept busy. Bullougli was tricky at centre-for-ward, and the defence of both teams was a feature of the game. Caldwell made some great saves from Innes, and Morrison was playing a great game at right-half for Ponsonby, but Ponsonby’s forwards were too slow for the home defenders. Ponsonby finished the first half better and seemed more likely to maintain the fast pace of the game. There was no score at half-time. The second half opened sensationally, Innes scoring for Ponsonby within a few minutes. Ponsonby did most of the pressing through Adshead, Tomilty and Innes wearing down the home backs to a standstill. Adshead scored a second goal, the ball hitting the side of the post, and Caldwell having no chance to save. Innes scored next from a pass by Wright, and Tomilty followed with a fourth. Final: Ponsonby 4 Rotowaro 0 Superior combination and training won the game for Ponsonby. Rotowaro tired early in the second half. Adshead and Innes were the pick of the Ponsonby forwards. Wright and Morrison at half, and Williams at fullback, were solid in defence. Rotowaro’s best were T. Dodds, Hunter, Beaumont and Caldwell (in goal), who played magnificently.
