BOMB IN DANCE-HALL
FRENCH RIOTS
SACCO-VANZETTI SYMPATHY DEPORTATIONS FOLLOW By Cable.—Press Association.—Copyright PARIS, Saturday. Demonstrations of protest against the execution in America ov the two Italians, Sacco and Vanzetti, continue to be made throughout France. A serious disturbance took place at Cherbourg at midnight- Two thousand demonstrators made a desperate attempt to reach the American Consulate, which was under the protection of troops, police and firemen. Stones were thrown, lamp-posts were torn up and many people were injured- Twenty arrests were made. A bomb was thrown into a dance hall at Juan les Pins frequented by tourists. Eight persons were seriously injured and one died subsequently. It is believed that this outrage was perpetrated by Sacco-Vanzetti sympathisers under the impression that the hall was full ot Americans. However, there were no Americans among the injured. The French Government has decided to expel more than 1,000 foreigners who participated in the recent Sacco-Vanzetti riots. including several men connected with the Soviet Embassy. There was a constant stream of people yesterday afternoon and evening to the unknown soldier's tomb, which was desecrated by a rioter two days ago. This culminated in an enormous procession of ex-soldiers’ organisations, including blind and crippled men. The ex-soldiers bore standards. Finally the rays of the setting sun struck through the arch at the tomb and lit up the multicoloured forest of banners. Thereupon all were simultaneously dipped and a minute’s silence was observed.—A. and N.Z.-Sun.
