SCHOOL TRANSFER

The departure of Mr. A. R. Merrington, headmaster of the Hikurangi School, for Te Aroha, was marked by a farewell gathering last week, when he was presented with a canteen of cutlery, suitably inscribed, and a gold wristlet watch for Mrs. Merrington. Mr. E. McDonald, on behalf of the Rugby Football Club, presented the departing president with a case of pipes. Musical items were contributed by the following:—Messrs. G. Martin, R. Davidson, D. B. Anderson, G. Bastowe, M. Tansey, A. Dawson, T. Gilbv, J. Robinson. B. J. Ilardie and Rev. T. W. Edwards. Mr. B. Farriman was the accompanist. On Thursday, the school children made a farewell gift to the headmaster of a gramophone at a ceremony which was attended byseveral members of the School Commute and their wives.
