FERRY CAPTAIN’S DEATH
55 YEARS’ SERVICE An old official of the Dovonport Steam Ferry Company, Captain Thomas Clark, who saw 55 years’ service in the trans-harbour traffic, died at his home, 91 Grange Road, Mount Eden, yesterday, at the age of SC. Prior to arriving in New Zealand, Captain Clark was in Adelaide, and was later on ships running to the gold rushes of the West Coast of the South Island. He then entered the service of the Holmes Ferry Service, die forerunner of the preset: Devoniiori service. . , When tho Hon. E. W. Alison took over the service, and formed the Devonport Steam Ferry Company, Captain Clark remained until his retirement about five years ago. in 1573 h" married Miss Mary Lander, daughter of the late Captain and Mrs. Lander, of Devonport. At the golden wedding four years ago there was a meeting ol over 70 relatives and friends. Captain Clark is survived by jiu wife, two sons, ami three daughters.
