Herd-testing. Aja effort is being made in the Coromandel district to form a herd-testing association. It is estimated that 2,400 cows will be available. False Alarm at Devonport. —The Devonport Fire Brigade was called by telephone about 10 a.m. to Vauxhall store in Vauxhall Road. The alarm turned out to be false. Gaoled for Fraud. —George Anderson, who has just come out of gaol, was sentenced at Palmerston North to-day to another three months for obtaining money by fraud.—Press Association. Drunk Resists Arrest. —James Benson, aged 35, who appeared at the Police Court to-day, was fined 5s for drunkenness, and £3, in default 14 days’ imprisonment, for resisting arrest. Death at Country Dance. —The death occurred at a country dance last night of Frederick Drube, aged 41. There *as nothing to indicate the cause ol his death, though deceased had recently complained of pains in the stomach. He was a married man with three children.—Press Association.
Ranfurly Shield Presentation. —The Hourly Shield, which has been the subject of so much comment in Rugby circles of late, has been forwarded to Palmerston North by the Hawke’s Bay Kugby Union, and will be presented to fhe Manawhenua team on its return from Wellington this evening.— tress Association.
