HINEMOA’S FAST TRIP
LEPERS FOR MOKAGAI RECORD FRUIT CARGO During her last trip the Government steamer Hinemoa removed 29 lepers from various islands To the leper station at Mokagai. Site returned to Auckland this morning after a very fast voyage. Dr. Christie joined the Hinemoa at Apia, Samoa, and was health officer during the trip, attending to the lepers. A record load of bananas was brought from Suva, Fiji, by the vessel. The liinemoa left Auckland on July 26 and reached Niue on the night of July 31. Leaving Niue on August 2 the liinemoa reached Samoa on August 4, where stores and water were taken on board. Penrhyn, was reached on August 9, and the first of the lepers taken on board. From here the Hinemoa called at Pakahanga, Manahiku and Pukapuka for more lepers. Mokagai was reached on August 17. A quick discharge was made, and the vessel arrived at Suva on August 18 and left for Auckland the following day. Good weather was experienced on most of the voyage, which was done in remarkably quick time.
