TWO THOUSAND LOSE WORK
SYDNEY PROCESSION SYDNEY, Wednesday. More than 2,000 employees of the city railway construction branch who participated in the Sacco-Vanzetti demonstration were dismissed. The Chief Railway Commissioner, Mr. J. Fraser, informed them they could only be re-engaged through the Government Labour Bureau. The men’s representatives then interviewed the Minister of Railways, Mr. W. J. Ratcliffe, who promised to intervene and to endeavour to effect a settlement. When 700 workmen employed at the Sydney City Council’s power-house at Bunnerong, who had participated in yesterday’s procession, went to work to-day they found the gates locked. After some dispute they decided to present themselves ready to commence work to-morrow morning.—A. and N.Z.
