GERMANY AND FRANCE

DR. WIRTH’S WARNING TROOPS IN RHINELAND By Cable.~~-Press Association.—Copyright PARIS, Tuesday. The former Chancellor of Germany, Dr. Wirth, made a statement to a representative of the newspaper “Excelsior” regarding the negotiations between Britain and France in connection wth the reduction of the Rhineland troops. He said: “It is no use disguising the fact that there is a misunderstanding between Germany and France. The latter regards the Locarno Pact as having to be treated in a new atmosphere, but without any change concerning the Treaty of Versailles. “Germany, on the other hand, expects Locarno to restore her sovereignty, and wants to see an end, or at least a modification, of the Rhineland occupation.” Dr. Wirth warned France that delays would involve dangers.—A. and N.Z.
