MOUNT ALBERT ASKED TO CONTRIBUTE COUNCILLOR’S OPPOSITION \\7'HEN a letter from the Waite- ’ * mata Bridge Committee asking if the Mount Albert Borough Council would contribute to its funds came before the meeting of that body last evening, a sharp difference of opinion arose. Cr. Langley: 1 propose no action be taken. Cr. Allingham moved an amendment that the matter be referred to the joint committee for consideration, and with power to act. Cr. Langley: The funds of the council are not here to be thrown about broadcast at every request for money. This scheme means nothing to the council and won’t benefit the district. Cr. Buckley: Everyone who crosses the water will benefit. He seconded Cr. Allingham’s amendment. Cr. Langley (heatedly): We could do more good by reducing the "bridge” of taxation on the ratepayers, instead of adding another insult to their already heavy burden. The Mayor, Mr. L. E. Rhodes, pointed out that it would do no harm for the joint committee to consider the matter. Cr. Allingham’s amendment was carried.
