Motor Bandits in London

Police Given Bullet-Proof Cars

Flying Squad With Wireless

By Cable. —Press Association. — Copyright. Received 1.25 p.m. LONDON, Monday. THE alarming increase of motor bandits has caused Scotland Yard to announce that it is adding bullet-proof cars with unsplinterable glass and with a speed of 80 miles an hour to the present flying' squad.

.SCOTLAND YARD is also equipping each driver by means of a wireless course with the Morse telegraphic code. A batch of detectives to-day attended the first wireless lesson. The famous Yard cars, equipped with secret light signals are known to all police, who give them preference to all other traffic. The drivers are picked men with iron nerve. They

are expert motorists and are disguised to disarm suspicion. They frequently appear in the West End in full evening dress. The use of wireless will permit inter-car communication all over London, as well as giving direct communication with Scotlanif Yard, thereby allowing a central head to direct the cars racing all over the metropolis.—A. and N.Z.
