TOURING CYCLISTS
RECEPTION BY MAYOR MOTORING ROUND THE WORLD The visiting motor-cycle tourists, Messrs. J. P. Castley and B. H. Cathrick, were welcomed by the Mayor of Auckland. Mr. George Baildon, on behalf of citizens, at the Town Hall this morning. Mr. G. M. White introduced the visitors. The Mayor said that he understood that the tourists were out to demonstrate the ability of British machines, and mentioned the recent motor trade delegation from England. He hoped that they would be successful in their mission. The Mayor and the visitors had an informal discussion on reading and motoring conditions in New Zealand, and the comparison between this country and England regarding motoring. At the conclusion Mr. White thanked the Mayor for the reception. The two men have been sent round the world in the interests of the British motor-cycle industry. The backing of the British Department of Overseas Trade, the Automobile Association of Great Britain, and the Federation of British Industries, has been secured, and the British Foreign Office has assisted in every way possible. The two riders are mounted on 9.5-h.p. h.p. B.S.A. machines, with box sidecars. In the boxes are carried all the various articles of personal comfort, and in addition complete camping equipment, including tent, repeating rifle, camera, typewriter, first-aid outfit, and reserve supply of benzine and oil. . „ The cyclists are broadcasting a talk on their experiences from IYA at 7.15 this evening.
