BASKETBALL TOURNAMENT
GIRL GUIDES AT PLAY A very successful basketball tourney was held at Otahuhu on Saturday, when teams representing the various troops attached to the Manukau command contested some very keen and interesting games. In spite of the unfavourable weather, a good number of spectators attended and spent a very enjoyable afternoon. Mrs. Hain, district commissioner, donated a handsome cup for competition. The results of the games are as follow: FIRST ROUND Papakura A 23, beat Ellerslie A 22. Papatoetoe B 16, beat Manurewa 2. Papatoetoe A 34 beat Otahuhu B 4. Otahuhu A 2s, beat Ellerslie B 3. SECOND ROUND Papakura A 42, beat Papatoetoe B 0. Papatoetoe A 24, beat Otahuhu A 12. FINAL Papatoetoe A 16, beat Papakura A 12. At the conclusion of play Mrs. Hain presented the Papatoetoe team with the coveted trophy, congratulating it upon its splendid performance. ANGLICAN GIRLS’ GUILD An “afternoon” was held in Pt John’s Hall by the Anglican Girls’ Guild on Thursday, in aid of the forthcoming bazaar. There was a good attendance, and a most enjoyable time was spent. The programme consisted of musical items and competitions. Mrs Fa°-g and Misses D. Wood and N. Snooks were in charge of a flower and sweet stall, at which good business was done. Miss Dora Wood’s song was much appreciated, while the duet by Miss Clemett and Miss Binning received a well merited encore. “The Waters of Minnetonka,” sung by special request by Miss V. Clemett, was much enjoyed, as was also a pianoforte solo by "the same lady. The competitions caused a great deal of amusement, the winners being Mrs. Wood, Mrs. E. Clemett, and Miss D. Burling.
