THE PHILISTINE CLUB

ANOTHER REVEL | An exceptionally large number of I members and visitors attended the fortnightly revel of the Philistine Club on Saturday evening. Mr. J. L. Conlan was in the chair and welcomed several new members. A splendid programme of varied items was presented and after supper dancing was enjoyed until the midnight hour. Miss Hopper and Mr. Simpson rendered several pleasing solos. An amusing little sketch was presented by Miss Bennett and Mr. Zante Wood, and Mr. Rex Yates’s humorous items were well received. Mr. TI. C. Borradalc, of Brisbane, gave a musical monologue and other items, and Mr. Dan Flood, who has recently returned to Auckland, was heard in several songs at the piano. Violin solos by Mr. Colin Muston, Jnr., a flute solo by Mr. Rainger, and a dancing interlude by pupils of Miss Daphne Knight were pleasing additions to the programme. Miss Laura Walker, saxe blue frock, banded with string cold lace. Miss Quinn, black taffeta frock striped with jade green. When peeling onions for pickling, try wearing a pair of motoring goggles; then the onions will not affect the eyes at all. When doing embroidery, try attaching a piece of adhesive tape to the finger which is usually pricked. This will not be at all awkward, as a fingershield can be.
