NEW SITE FOR T.B. SHELTERS ACCEPTED
NOT TO BE PERMANENT The decision to accept the City Council’s offer of a site in the Domain for the T.B. shelters was reached yesterday by the joint committee of the various bodies concerned. The site accepted was that recommended by the medical superintendent of the Auckland Hospital, at the intersection of Stanley Street and the Domain Drive. The council’s stipulation that there should be shelters for 15 patients only, and each should be removed as soon as vacated, was agreed to. The Mayor, Mr. Ci. Baildon, who presided, pointed out that this had to be done to show that it was not the council’s responsibility, but the Government’s. The council had no responsibility in the matter, and did not want the shelters to be there for all time. A committee, consisting of the Mayor, Mr. W. Wallace, as chairman of the Hospital Board, and Mr. Sinclair Reed, as president of the Returned Soldiers’ Association, was appointed to draw up plans and arrange for the removal of the patients from their present quarters in the Domain. The hope was expressed that their comfort would be attended to in every way.
