WAY OF SHIPS’ PASSENGERS A NEW REGULATION By Cable.—Press Association. —Copyright Reed. 11.30 a.m. MELBOURNE, To-day The Federal Executive Council has passed a new Customs regulation requiring ships’ passengers, after January 1 next, to make a written declaration before a Customs official, setting out all the articles in their effects which are intended for gifts, sale, exchange or trade, or which are j not their bona fide effects. The acting Minister of Customs, tlie j Hon. T. W. Crawford, said the evasion j of duties by private passengers from j overseas was causing the department \ much concern.—A. and N.Z.
