FINE LINKS
AND PRETTY SURROUNDINGS WHANGAREI TOURNAMENT As announced in last week’s notes, Whangarei Golf Club is holding an open amateur tournament commencing on Thursday, August 25, and concluding on the Saturday. Writing of the course, J. Watt remarks:— “The links at Mount Denby are on a par with Rotorua, as regards fine natural links and pretty surroundings. At present they are in beautiful order and the greens are quite equal to the best we have in Auckland. “There are some beautiful holes on the links, which is like an old English park. “The short hole is one of the prettiest and best in New Zealand, and hitters are catered for by two holes of 421 yards and two over 500 yards. “To players who cannot enter at Hamilton and who want a golfing holiday, Whangarei will not disappoint, and all outside players will have a royal welcome from the keen local players.
