EMPLOYERS FINED
BREACHES OF AWARDS (From Our Oven Correspovident.) ROTORUA, To-day. At Rotorua yesterday Mr. W. G. Kenrick, H.M., heard several cases dealing with breaches of industrial awards. The first heard was that of J. B. Morrison, boarding-house keeper, who was charged with failing to pay George Williamson, porter, the wages due to him for one week’s holiday. Williamson said when he was leaving his employ Mrs. Morrison paid him £ 1 10s short. Mr. Kenrick said the wages book was not kept properly. ITe inflicted a fine of £ 3 saying that defendant was not charged with fraudulent intent, or he would have been liable to a fine of £ 50. Messrs. Schofield and Crowe, for failing to give notice that they had engaged an apprentice, were fined £3O and costs. Tamak Takere, a bush contractor, was charged with failing to pay Alfred Wyatt and others wages due to them, amounting to over £ 80. Mr. Kenrick considered the case serious, and inflicted a fine of £2O.
