Polling Light on Tramway Loan
CITY BOOTHS SLACK RATEPAYERS’ DECISION BY 8 P.M.
ratepayers are to-day engaged iri deciding whether the £500,000 tramway loan will be authorised, and the capital invested in the undertaking increased from £1,750,000 to £2,250,000. The. indications are that the polling will be comparatively small. City booths in particular had only recorded a percentage of the votes that might have been anticipated by noon to-day, and the usual rush after that was not by any means heavy. Several suburban booths are much busier. In all, 22,363 ratepayers, including wives or husbands, are entitled to vote. Voting presents no difficulties, either one of two lines having to be struck out. The returning officer. Mr. P. F. Motley, anticipates being able to announce the result within an hour after polling closes at 7 p.m.
