LAUNCH FOUNDERS
WELLINGTON MISHAP FISHERMEN’S SWIM FOR LIFE Press Association. \ WELLINGTON, To-day. Three Island Bay fishermen, Andrew Tait, George Banter, and J. Hunter, were taking their launch "Narna” round from the slip to Island Bay last night when, near the entrance to the harbour, it struck a submerged rock or some obstacle, and foundered in a few minutes. The men stripped, and with lifebelts on, swam for their lives, first lighting flares to attract attention. The steamer Arahura saw them and stood by a mile away. Hunter, who is a powerful swimmer, made for her, and reached her as she was lowering the second boat. The other two took refuge on Burrett’s Reef and the boats got there in time to save them from collapsing. A strong wind was blowing and the water was rough and cold. The men seemed none the worse for their unpleasant experience.
