TRAINING COLLEGES’ TOURNAMENT

AUCKLAND’S GOOD WIN WELL AHEAD ON POINTS The annual Training Colleges’ Tournament between Auckland and Wellington was concluded to-day, Auckland winning the Afilnes Alemorial Bowl by a substantial margin. Yesterday Auckland brought its points tally into an unbeatable position by victories in the girls’ and men’s hockey and the basketball, while the Rugby match was drawn. The tournament was brought to a close this morning witlj. a swimming carnival in the Tepid Baths. A combined executive meeting was held this afternoon, and the Wellington team will leave by the Alain Trunk express to-night. Following are the points scored:—

AUCKLAND WINS BOTH HOCKEY MATCHES The girls’ hockey match was very evenly contested, Auckland, however, winning by 2 goals to 1. The Auckland scorers were Alissjes Jurd and Belham, and Aliss Wapp scored Wellington’s only goal. The men’s match was also won by Auckland, by 4 goals to 1. For the winners Thompson (2), Wotherspoon and Tizard scored, Wellington’s goal being scored by Frazer. RUGBY FOOTBALL MATCH ENDS IN DRAW

The Rugby match between the two colleges was played at the Domain in the afternoon, and resulted in a draw, six points all. All the scores were made in the second spell. Shortly after lemons, Broomfield dropped a goal from a mark for Auckland. Then South scored a nippy try for Wellington, which was not converted. A brilliant passing rush by the Auckland backs ended in Minns, the representative player, racing over for another unconverted try. The kick failed. Hard and fast forward movements ensued, and then Brown equalised the score with an unconverted try for Wellington. Meyer and Alatheson were outstanding for Auckland, and Bell was very solid at fullback. Johnson and AleNaughton were conspicuous in the forwards. Anderson was unable to play for Auckland, owing to an injury received in the Auckland-Taranaki match on Saturday. South was the king-pin of the Wellington backs, but was well looked after by Alatheson. Barry, a fine type of forward, was the outstanding man in the Wellington pack. AUCKLAND GIRLS WIN BASKETBALL The Auckland girls also had another good win in the basketball at the Normal School yesterday, defeating Wellington by 46 points to 23. The home side wals superior throughout, its diagonal passing being a noteworthy feature of the game.
