WAIPA RUGBY UNION MEETING
The weekly meeting of the Waipa Rugby Union Management Committee was held on Monday evening at Te Awamutu. There were present: Mr. F. Quin, chairman, Messrs. S. A. McNamara. G. B. Melrose, G. W. Mairs, H. T. Haselden, W. Whitton, E. T. Crump, W. Cavanagh. G. Reynolds and W. M. Winter, secretary. It was ascertained that both Cambridge and Otorohanga school teams were ready to play the final fo.r the Teddy Shield at Te Awamutu on Saturday next. It was decided to play the match as a curtain-raiser to the Waipa v. Matamata senior representative match. It was agreed that the latter match start at 2.30 p.m., in order to suit the convenience of the country patrons. It was decided to protest to the Waikato Rugby Union for allowing the Hamilton v. Cambridge representative match to be played on the same day as the Waikato v. King Country match, it being argued that the match affected the attendance at the premier fixture. The Waikato Union would be the loser, but though Waipa got none of the proceeds it did not want to be penalised in future allocations of important representative fixtures through the receipts at Te Awamutu being lower than anticipated. It was decided to accept the Walton Club’s challenge for the Bennie Cup. Pirongia won this cup last year, and tliis year Te Awamutu Club being the champion team it will defend the trophy against challengers. Walton Club is the premier club in the Matamata Union. It was decided to grant the Hockey Association 25 per cent, of the receipts of next Saturday’s football matches.
