CRUELTY TO CALVES
Sir, — I would very much like to pat the editor and the management of THE SUN on the back for the manly and humane manner that THE SUN has taken up and opposed this “Trade in Veal.” Truly, as you say, “It must be bad” when butchers almost shrunk from their work under the present prevailing state of things. After reading a good many articles in various newspapers about this “new industry”—as some term it—-I am convinced that the empty, weak and starving condition of many of the innocent young victims is proof of gross cruelty and a direct failure or neglect on the part of the Government department concerned to have the regulations carried out as regards feeding. I would suggest that the S.P.C.A. call a special meeting of all members and sympathisers to see what can be done in the cause of justice and mercy to dumb animals. ANTI-BARBARIAN.
