DEAR BANANAS GLUT OF SWEDES \rEGETABLES for the most part still sell at values well within range of the average housewife, cooking apples are in good demand. Island fruits are well supplied, and oranges are slightly easier in value. Bananas are firm. A shipment of fruit from the Cook Group is due on the Waipahi early next month. Citrus fruit from Sydney was unloaded at Auckland to-day, but as the shipment is light and there is not another for twelve days, it is expected that values will show an advance on last week’s rates. The market continues glutted with swedes, cabbages and cauliflowers. All seasonable vegetables are well supplied and meet with a firm demand. Prices at to-day’s auctions in the City Marts ranged as follow: FRUIT Apples: Delicious, 8s to 31s a case; Sturmers (Hawke’s Bay), 10s to 11s; Stunners (Nelson), 8s to 9s 6d; Dougherty’s, 6s 6d to Ss; Monroes, 9s to 10s 6d; Ballarats, 10s; Washington. 10s; Jonathan, 8s; Pride of Australia, 9s 6d to 10s. Pears: Nellis, choice lines, 10s to 12s a case; Nellis, others, Ss to 9s; Coles, 6s 6d to lCs 6d; Keiffers, 6s to 7s; Beurre Bose, 6s to 8s; P. Barry, ys; Vicars, Ss; Josephine, 9s to 9s 6d. Tomatoes: Hothouse, 9d to 2s 2d a lb. Tree tomatoes: 4s to 7s 6d a case. Grapes: Hothouse, 3s 6d to 4s a lb.; Sydney whites, 15s to 22s a case. Passions: 6s to 12s a case. Demons: Local, 5s to 12s a case. Oranges: Local, sweet, 6s to 7s a case; Poorman, 6s to 10s; Aitutaki, 22s 6d; Rarotongan, 38s 6d to 20s; Sydney Navels, 17s to 19s. Guavas: 7s a case.
