RAILWAY STAFF GRADING REVISION
WORK OF COMMITTEE REPORT DUE SHORTLY (From Our Resident Reporter.) WELLINGTON, To-day. 'VTERY little has been heard of ' late respecting the report of the special committee which for the past 18 months has been occupied in revising the grading of the staff and inquiring generally into the value of positions in the railway service. It is believed that much progress has been made toward the regrading of the first division, and the general principles contained in the recommendations of the special committee, have been in the main adopted. During its investigations the committee travelled the length and breadth of the Dominion investigating staff conditions with a definite view of bringing them into uniformity with other branches of the public service, and assessing the value of the different positions. It was expected that the deliberations involving such wide ramifications would take a long time. There is reason to believe, however, that the report of the committee will shortly be made available, and from indications it is likely that the recommendations will be met with general approval in the service.
