SACCO AND VANZETTI

AUCKLAND PROTEST LETTER TO U.S. CONSUL Following the mass meeting held i in Quay Street on Sunday at which a protest was recorded against the pending execution of i the two Italians, Sacco and Van- ! zettis, the resolution passed has | been forwarded to the American \ Consul, Mr. Walter Boyle. j THE covering letter, signed by air. , J. H. Edward, Secretary of the Sacco-Vanzetti Release Committee, reads as follows: "It has been decided by the SaccoVanzetti Release Committee to acquaint you as a matter of courtesy of the fact that the people of New Zealand are highly indignant at the proposed execution of Sacco and t anzetti in America. “At a mass meeting of Auckland citizens held on Sunday last this fact was specially emphasised and a resolution protesting against the proposed execution was unanimously carried. It was also agreed that a copy of same be forwarded to the President of your country by cable. "By way of explanation I would point out that the majority of people present were members of the working class, and ail were agreed that the trial of the two men concerned was undoubtedly influenced by the fact that they expressed certain political opinions. “This, sir, the working class cannot allow to go without protest, and while protesting we hope that the minority in your country which has persistently persecuted members of our class will at least do the right thing on this occasion and be guided by the public expression of America itself, and that of the whole of the world. “We intend to hold gigantic mass meetings in every centre in New Zealand and we are confident that the resolution we have passed will be fully endorsed.” A copy of the following resolution was also forwarded: “This mass meeting of Auckland citizens emphatically protest? against the contemplated judicial murder of Sacco and Vanzetti, whom we believe to be innocent.”
