AUCKLAND CONTESTS
BOUT FOR FEATHER TITLE MADDOX AND LECKIE The feather-weight championship of New Zealand will be decided in a 15rounds contest, under the auspices of the Northern Boxing Association, at the Town Hall on Monday evening, when Duke Maddox, the title-holder, meets Johnny Leckie, of Dunedin. The champion is a clever boxer and though he was recently defeated by Tommy Griffiths, it was reported that he was not in his best fighting trim at the time of the fight. Leckie was spoken of as a likely contestant at the Olympic Games. However, he turned professional and since then has not suffered defeat. Matt Hatton and P. Black, of Wellington, will meet in a 10-round bout in support of the title fight. The winner will most probably challenge the winner of the other bout. There will be a special six-round preliminary bout between Clarkson and Leslie, who put up such a spirited contest in the recent amateur championships. The box plans open at Carter and Asher’s to-morrow morning.
