LATE MRS. ANNE FRASER
A daughter of one of the earliest European settlers in the ICohukoliu district, Mrs. Anne Fraser, died at her home, Edwin street. Mount Eden, on Saturday, at the age of 85. Mrs. Fraser was the second daughter of the late Mr. G. E. Russell. In 1873 she was maried at Kohukohu to -Mr. J. M. Fraser, formerly interpreter to the Native Land Court. She then came to Auckland, where she lived for 55 years. At the time of the first Maori War Mrs. Fraser was living at Rawene, and could remember the precautions taken to protect the settlers from attack. She was a direct descendant of the famous chief Tamati Waka Nene, who was one of the first chiefs to sign the Treaty of Waitangi. Mrs. Fraser is, survived by her husband, two daughters (Mrs. H. L. Wade. Auckland, Mrs. A. E. Martin, Sydney), and one son, Mr. Munro Fraser, of Sydney.
