VARSITY TOO GOOD
MARIST JUST BEATEN Although five points to three in favour of Varsity was the score in the Varsity-Marist game at Victoria Park on Saturday, the honours were fully in favour of Varsity. From the start this team displayed a more finished style and certainly a better combination. Play, however, was not startling and it was inclined to be patchy in parts. Marist was unfortunate enough to lose Molloy and Cornthwaite during the game through injuries, but that could not have affected the conclusion of the game. Johnson, Marist’s wing, played probably one of the best games of the day. Always to the front ho put in some great work, and was most unfortunate in not getting away. He did the work of two men and was a decided acquisition to the team. Keegan, Varsity, was noticeable in the forward line, while Stone and Jenkins also had a lot to say in throwing the ball about. For this time in the season a better game was looked for, and Marist will have to improve to make an impression.
